Accounts
The Accounts page is where you connect, organize, and maintain all of your bank and financial accounts in QLife Money.
It supports accounts linked through Plaid, accounts you enter by hand, and accounts created from a statement you uploaded, and it lets you group accounts as Personal or assigned to a specific Business. Accounts linked through Stripe Financial Connections before the Early Bird launch still appear and sync, but every new link goes through Plaid. Each account row shows the institution logo, display name, account type, and a live chip cluster (TXN, BAL, SYNC) that updates asynchronously after the page loads. You can rename accounts with nicknames, assign them to a business, sync them on demand, upload documents directly onto a row, and delete or merge accounts from this single page.
How to
Link a bank account
- At the bottom of the Accounts card, click Link a Bank or Card.
- Plaid Link opens. Search for your bank or card issuer and sign in on the bank's own screen. QLife Money never sees your password; the access is read-only.
- Choose the accounts to share and finish the Plaid flow.
- The page reloads and each new account appears with a SYNC chip showing 'syncing'. About two years of history arrives within a minute or two.
- Wait for the sync progress bar to finish; the page reloads automatically when syncing is complete. Use the row's Assign action if an account belongs to a business rather than to you personally.
Add an account manually
- Click Add Account Manually at the bottom of the Accounts card.
- In the modal, enter the Institution name (required), choose an Account type (Depository, Credit, Investment, Loan, or Other), optionally enter a Subtype and Last 4 digits.
- Click Create. The modal closes and the new account appears in the list with provider label MANUAL.
Rename an account
- Find the account row you want to rename.
- Click Rename on that row.
- In the prompt that appears, type the new nickname (leave blank to clear an existing nickname) and click OK.
- The row updates immediately with the new display name.
Assign an account to a business
- Find the account row you want to reassign.
- Click Assign on that row.
- In the modal that opens, select the target business from the dropdown (choose 'Personal (no business)' to remove a business assignment).
- Click Save. The row updates to reflect the new owner label.
Sync, reconnect, or relink an account
- To manually trigger a transaction pull, click Sync on any active account row. The button shows a spinner while syncing.
- If a Plaid account shows a Reconnect button (its sync status is login_required), click Reconnect to re-authenticate using Plaid's update mode — this repairs the existing connection without losing transaction history.
- To refresh an active Plaid connection or enable statement data on a credit card, click Relink. This creates a new Plaid Item that includes the liabilities product.
- If an account is unlinked, click Relink to re-establish the connection from scratch.
Reference
- TXN chip
- Shows the total number of synced transactions for the account. Cyan when the count is greater than zero; gray when zero or unknown.
- BAL chip
- Shows the current balance. Green for non-credit accounts, pink for credit accounts. Displays a pulsing yellow '…' while the balance is being fetched from the bank. Shows '—' when no balance is available.
- SYNC chip
- Shows the current sync state. Possible values: 'syncing' (cyan, pulsing) — actively pulling transactions; 'enriching' (cyan, pulsing) — categorizing transactions; 'synced ✓' (green) — up to date; '! error' (red) — sync failed; 'unlinked' (gray) — connection broken; 'idle' (gray) — no recent activity.
- Reconnect button
- Appears only on Plaid accounts whose sync status is login_required (expired or revoked credentials). Uses Plaid Link update mode to re-authenticate the existing Item in place, preserving transaction history and the sync cursor.
- Relink button
- Appears on active Plaid accounts (and on unlinked accounts of any provider). For active accounts it creates a brand-new Plaid Item, which is also how to enable statement balance, due date, and APR data on credit cards linked before the liabilities product was added.
- Merge into… button
- Available only on manually entered accounts (provider = MANUAL). Moves all transactions and uploaded files from this account onto a chosen target account, then deletes the source account. This action cannot be undone.
- Upload button
- Opens the Upload Documents modal for the account. Accepts any file type; PDFs and CSV/OFX files have transactions auto-extracted. Files must be 25 MB or smaller. You can also drag files directly onto any account row to upload without opening the modal.
- PERSONAL / BUSINESS owner label
- A small colored tag shown next to the account name when the All Accounts scope is active. Cyan PERSONAL indicates a personal account; pink labels show the business name for business-assigned accounts.
