Budget & Forecast
The Budget and Forecast page lets you create spending plans for your personal finances and each of your businesses, then monitor how actual income and expenses compare to those plans.
The page lists every budget across Personal and all your businesses together, regardless of the scope switcher. Each budget has a name, a type (Monthly, Quarterly, Annual, or Custom), a date range, and planned income and planned expense targets. Click a budget to see its detail view with actual versus planned amounts, and, when the budget has them, a line-item breakdown by category and any notes.
How to
Create a new budget
- Click the '+ New Budget' button at the top right of the Budget & Forecast card.
- In the New Budget form, enter a Name (for example, 'Q1 2025 Budget'). If you leave it blank the budget is named 'New Budget'.
- Select the Entity — 'Personal' or one of your businesses.
- Select the Type: Monthly, Quarterly, Annual, or Custom.
- Set the Start Date and End Date for the budget period.
- Enter the Planned Income ($) and Planned Expenses ($) amounts in dollars. Leave either at 0 or blank to skip it.
- Click 'Create'. The new budget appears in the list. Click 'Cancel' to close the form without saving.
View a budget's detail and line items
- Click any budget row in the list.
- The detail view shows three tiles. Income and Expenses each show the actual amount, the planned amount with a percentage, and a fill bar. Net shows actual net and planned net without a bar.
- If the budget has line items, they appear below under INCOME and EXPENSES headings, each showing the category name, actual versus planned amounts, and a progress bar. Any notes on the budget appear in a NOTES box at the bottom.
- Click '← Back to Budget' to return to the list.
Reference
- Budget Type
- The time horizon of the budget plan: Monthly, Quarterly, Annual, or Custom.
- Planned Income / Planned Expenses
- The target amounts entered when creating a budget, representing the expected income and spending for the period.
- Actual Income / Actual Expenses

- Line Items
- Category-level breakdowns within a budget, each typed as income or expense, with its own planned and actual amounts and a progress bar.
- Draft
- A budget with no planned income and no planned expenses. The list shows 'Draft' instead of percentages and bars.
