Start a Business
The Start a Business page is a guided setup timeline for launching a business the right way from day one — the steps most first-time owners don't know to do, in order.
Pick your jurisdiction (Clark County, Nevada is built in, plus a general U.S. checklist) and it walks you through everything: confirming zoning, registering the entity and business name, getting your state and local licenses, registering for taxes, and opening separate business bank accounts. Each step shows who to contact and the relevant link or phone number. Steps that renew every year (like the Nevada State Business License and the county license) are marked 'Annual' so you know they recur. Check off steps as you complete them; your progress is saved. The goal is to help you set things up correctly the first time instead of fixing problems in reverse years later.
How to
Work through the setup checklist
- Choose your jurisdiction from the dropdown at the top (defaults to Clark County, Nevada).
- Read each step's detail, then use the linked website or phone number to complete it with the listed authority.
- Click the checkbox to mark a step done — the progress bar updates and your completion is saved.
- Steps marked 'If applicable' only apply to some businesses (e.g. a health permit for food); skip the ones that don't apply to you.
Reference
- Annual
- A step that must be renewed every year (e.g. the Nevada State Business License and the Clark County business license). These become recurring reminders once the business is added.
- If applicable
- A conditional step that only some businesses need — such as a health permit (food/pools) or a state board license (regulated professions).
- Jurisdiction
- Where your business operates. Requirements differ by state, county, and city; the checklist is tailored per jurisdiction, with a general U.S. fallback.
